After dining at a Fairbanks restaurant or spending a night out on the town, the Northern Lights could be a fantastic end to your evening. If you find yourself in the area during the Aurora season, here are the Northern Lights and Fairbanks FAQs you will want to know when planning your trip.

What are the Northern Lights?

The Northern Lights occur when a large number of electrons stream at high speed towards the earth on its magnetic field and collide with air particles. The air then lights up in a fluorescent light tube. The Northern Lights experience is also often referred to as an Aurora or the Polar Lights, and this natural light display is something that people often dream of seeing.

Can You See the Northern Lights in Fairbanks, Alaska?

There is a 1,550-mile radius around the magnetic poles, making this an excellent place to see the Northern Lights. Above the Arctic Circle is the best place to look for the Aurora Borealis, or the Northern Lights.

How to Photograph Northern Lights

Capturing the Northern Lights is the perfect way to remember your trip, but you will want to have a nicer camera to capture the moment. When photographing the Northern Lights, you should set your camera and your lens to a manual setting, with the flash off. Doing this will help you get a better visual.

When is the Best Time to See the Northern Lights?

The Northern Lights are present for much of the year, but the lack of darkness in the summer months makes it hard to see them during this season. The winter season lasts from September to April. This is when the sky is darker, making it an optimal time to see the Northern Lights. Also, the Aurora is the most active during September and March, so you can try to plan your trip accordingly.

When Can You See the Northern Lights in Alaska?
